Where to Work Out in Krasnodar:
Orange Fitness

Orange Fitness is perhaps the nicest full-service fitness club in Krasnodar today. The club is located in a newly constructed freestanding building at 185 Levenevskogo Street, just off of Severnaya Street, one of Krasnodar's main thoroughfares. Orange Fitness has four floors of fitness activities. The first floor (see below) has a full aerobic studio with treadmills, stair masters, elliptical trainers, and stationary bikes. There is also a full Nautilus-style equipment circuit and plenty of free weights. Personal trainers are available and are quite reasonably priced at around $10 per 30 minute session.

On the first floor there is a small cafe which makes some great fruit smoothies. There is also a full-service beauty salon (currently under renovation) where I like to get my hair cut. Lastly, the first floor boasts a large swimming pool and lounge deck. The shouts and laughter from kids in the swimming pool is constant - they are definitely having a blast.

Orange Fitness has lockers available for free to store your belongings as well as shower and sauna facilities. The women’s locker room is on the second floor along with a spa and wellness center. The spa provides massage, body wraps, facials, manicures, pedicures, etc. The spa may be expanded in 2008 – the owners are still discussing these plans.

The third floor is where the tennis and basketball court is located, in addition to a huge aerobic room next to a smaller boxing and martial arts studio.

Here’s a photo of the basketball and tennis court. I play doubles tennis here twice a week and occasionally join in a Monday-Wednesday-Friday after-work basketball league.

And then finally, on the fourth floor, there are a couple of dance and yoga studios. Yoga is becoming very popular here, just as in the United States. Almost every weekday morning when I arrive to my office I see groups of people waiting to start their yoga classes.

Anyhow, if you are planning on staying in Krasnodar for any period of time, I recommend signing-up for a membership to Orange Fitness (the annual cost is approximately $1,500 USD or $125 per month). And now I am off for a five kilometer run on the treadmill while I listen to my Pimsleur Russian language learning tapes…
