What Is the Real Russia Project?
Click on the YouTube video above to watch a news clip about the Real Russia Project from Russia Today TV. Russia Today's news crew came to Seattle last year to film a Discovery Institute event based on our special report "10 Western Media Stereotypes About Russia: How Truthful Are They?"
Stay tuned for information about future events we're planning for the Real Russia Project!

A very refreshing video. The mission of Real Russia Project to me looks very legitimate. The Russian government and all governments of the CIS members really need some good marketing to clear up the wrong perceptions.
Borat might be funny, but he’s an image of how Americans think about Russians. In fact, Borat is probably a clone of Reagan or Bush
Americans think of Russians like Germans think of Jews. I remember as a child when I brought a friend home for lunch, he was black, and my American grandmother freaked out, that the furniture was going to get dirty… A few years ago one of my local friends, a successful man (millionaire) in his own right, believed Russia had no oil / gas reserves.
Educated people in America have these distorted perceptions of Russia, while uneducated laugh along with Borat, all pretending to be so all-knowing. To no surprise to me, you look at Dr. Condoleezza Rice, who received her masters as some expert on Russia. She is pegged as one of the most powerful woman on Earth; yet she couldn’t debate a 10 year old Russian child.
How can so many experts in America be so wrong, for so long, about almost everything? In civilian life, this kind of piss poor performance gets you fired and poor.
Regardless, America tends to have negative images towards any country that is viewed as a competitor or any country that questions American incompetence. Yes men, like Yushchenko, Saakashvili, Mrs. Tymoshenko, Kasyonov, or Khodorkovsky have helped in the negative images of their people, all for the sake of pandering to the fake Americans.
For decades resources were so cheap for the US where we any business model could succeed and any distorted image of say Russia, could eventually be labeled as reality, and where false impression could become gospel if you applied enough funding to an NGO inside of Russia or Venezuela. The easy life in America allowed most to view the world as if they were high on marijuana. I think reality is going to be a bitch as Iraq gets far worse and as Russia continues towards its progress of democracy and capitalism.
The US is going fall harder than the collapse of any empire… I fear this for my country. Images are very important, but without reality, failure is imminent. And America has no reality of Enron profits or the Iraq war or of their competitors such as Russia or their enemies such as those they invaded.
Hopefully the Real Russia Project gets substantial funding; it will be good for everyone as it will move perceptions towards reality.
International news in the US and world conceptions of Americans are often negative, it's not only Russia, but the Middle East, Africa, China to some degree, and central Asian states.
