National Review Cartoon

Cartoon from National Review

Sometimes cartoons carry more wallop than an article. Obviously the world will be watching in 2007 to see how truly deregulated the Russian economy is, how successful its flat tax is--and whether the country can sustain its high growth rate.

Cute cartoon.

Can't it be argued that post Soviet Russia's problem has been not enough of a structured regulation?

The foreign business people in Russia are pro their interests, which may not always be Russia's best interests.

Foreign business people shouldn't be singled out. We see what Khodorkovsky attempted to do (sell Russian assets abroad for his own needs).

There're significant differences regarding totalitarian control (suppression), complete freedom (chaos) and some responsible regulation for the benefit of society (utopia).

All the more reason to value earnest ombundspeople.

Right Bruce?

Ombuds not bunds and yes Sasha, we very much need such people. Anyone saying differently is evil.

Under Yeltsin, there was little regulation in Russia.

Zero regulation is no good.

I had this cartoon on my refrigerator for my four sons to see and think about this past November, as I prepared to vote.

And......Happy Russian Orthodox Christmas to Russia Blog.
