If you have 2 minutes of time, and want to expand your horizons, please visit this link, which will take you to the New York Times web page, and then once you are there, click the “Multimedia, Interactive Feature, Day of Terror in Beslan” link. It’s an interactive, uploading slide and video show with NYT commentary. To see a “different” opinion of a Jihadis overlord, please read Shamil Basayev’s comments on the “successfully carried out operation”.
I am grateful to the NYT for calling things with their names, these people are terrorists, not insurgents, or rebels, or whatever, as Russia Blog has previously discussed.
More than a year after 344 civilians died, 186 of whom were elementary and middle school children, the Russian government investigation has finally been launched. The government has lied about the number of hostages, the doomed negotiations with the fanatics, the failed rescue operation, and now is finalizing 3 different reports that contradict each other, and don’t answer the questions of the dead children’s parents; were the tanks shooting at the school when children were there, why did three dozen heavily armed terrorists slip past several police posts, why is no one called responsible for the failed operation in the corrupt government.
Government officials, participating in the hearings against the only surviving terrorist, prefer not to look into the parents’ eyes, and some of them just ask for forgiveness, admitting that they did everything wrong.
Today, the non-profit organization “Voice of Beslan” wrote a letter to President Bush and the US Congress, UN and European Union, asking for the real, independent investigation, and American satellite footage of what actually happened that day at school.
Please watch the NYT presentation, and think about Russian kids, common people without “connections” or billions of dollars, and the true meaning of the Allah-blessed Jihad.
